Ervin C. Beerenstrauch, 99, of Lincoln, formerly of DeWitt, passed away at the Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon, February 26. He was born on November 10, 1920 in DeWitt to Carl and Anna (Schmohr) Beerenstrauch, baptized November 28, 1920 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, DeWitt and confirmed April 14, 1935 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Ervin served his country in the United States Army from June 6, 1942 until December 10, 1945. Ervin married Beryl Rathbun on October 13, 1946 in DeWitt and farmed in the DeWitt area before his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; American Legion Post #0212 in DeWitt; and the VFW Post #1077 in Beatrice. He enjoyed farming, mowing, and World War II History.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Beryl, of Lincoln; children Tom Beerenstrauch and wife Kathy of Lincoln, Larry Beerenstrauch of Beatrice, and Jeanette Grummert of Philadelphia; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Meryl Zimmerman of DeWitt. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Ernest (Dorothy); brother Elmer; sister Doris Wollenburg (Paul); brother-in-law Russell Zimmerman; and son-in-law Brad Grummert.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 2, 2020 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt with military honors provided by the United States Army. Private family burial of ashes will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Cremation has taken place, and a register book will be available from 12:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt. Jean Elizabeth Carnahan Davie was born May 8, 1921, in Lincoln to John Ray and Rosanna Farquhar Carnahan. She departed this life Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 98 years.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in1938, and the University of Nebraska, in 1942. She married Capt. Richard Estes Hiatt in 1942, was widowed in 1945, married Dr. Frederick George Hayner Davie in 1947, and was widowed again in 1989.
Jean was known for her decades of volunteer service, and for her wide-ranging curiosity. Her passions included meeting people and learning their stories, taking her grandchildren on Nebraska tours, avidly reading the Lincoln Journal Star, clipping Journal Star articles for family and friends, recycling birthday cards, quilting, and exploring all aspects of her beloved Lincoln, where she lived her entire life.
She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Junior League of Lincoln, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Lincoln Quilters' Guild, Friday Quilting Group, Junior League Book Club, and 100 Club.
Jean was the last President of the Lincoln Girl Scout Council, which subsequently joined several other councils in forming Homestead Girl Scout Council. She was a member of the Nebraska Quilt Project Committee and the Chairperson of the1992 National Quilt Association Convention, which was held in Lincoln. For years she volunteered with Chi Omega Sorority, Junior League of Lincoln, Holy Trinity Church, Lincoln Public Schools PTAs, Lincoln Girl Scouts, and the International Quilt Study Center and Museum.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, Dorothy Carnahan Olson Young and Annette Carnahan Kubie, and brother Donald Lee Carnahan. Survivors include her children, Sarah Riehl (Edward) of Odenton, Maryland, Fred Davie (Grace) of Tacoma, Washington, Anne Baden (Clarence) of Hebron, Nebraska, Jane Davie (Bob Haskill) of Cottonwood, Arizona, Paul Davie (Phyllis) of Bellevue, Washington; her grandchildren Jacob Baden, Emily Riehl, Evan Riehl, Kelsey Mallon, Chris Davie Nieto, Margo Davie Dolan, Rachel Davie, Sarah Davie; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Upon Jean's death, and per her certified wishes, her body was donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, for medical education and scientific research. Services are pending and will be at a later date. Suggested memorials include International Quilt Study Center and Museum, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and Chi Omega Sorority. Mary Lou Billiar, 86, of Lincoln, passed away on February 21, 2020. She was born July 29, 1933 in Crete, NE to George and Tillie Billiar. In 1951 she graduated from Crete High School and began working for State Farm Insurance in Lincoln, NE. She retired after over 40 years of service and enjoyed her retirement playing bingo and visiting family and friends.
She is survived by her brothers: Dr. Robert Billiar (Shirley) of South Sioux City, NE, Dr. Reinhart Billiar of Virginia Beach, VA, sister: Georgia Deming of Sunrise Beach, MO, and many nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dr. Donald Billiar.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:00p.m. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Memorials may be given to the Kidney Dialysis Center of Lincoln. Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Jarvis, 90, of Lincoln passed away February 24, 2020. Born October 10, 1929 in Salina, PA to Lysle E. and Ella M. (Goldy) Whitesell.
Jane grew up in Wellsville, MO and graduated from Christian College (now Columbia College) in Columbia, MO. She moved to Kansas City, MO where she worked at a pediatrician's office. She met the love of her life, Jack Jarvis, on a double date. They were wed on November 11, 1952. The newlyweds lived in Cambridge, MA, with Topper a large black poodle that occasionally dined on lobster because it was cheaper than dog food. In 1957 The couple moved to Lincoln, NE to start their family. In less than four years Jack, Jane and their three sons moved to their family home on South 52nd Street. Jane was involved in her boy's lives, the community and supporting her husband's private practice. Jane was a member of Westminster Presbyterian church for three decades.
After attending the baptism of one of her granddaughters she became a member of First-Plymouth Congregational Church. Special memories included summers spent at the family cabin at Lake Waconda and at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge in Minnesota. After her husband got sick from a degenerative brain disease, she spent a majority of her time dedicated to his care, first at home then at Madonna until his death on 2/25/83. In 1979 Jane and her three sons moved to a townhouse in Pinehurst. Jane's passions in life were family, friends, traveling, cooking and entertaining. Jane was a fierce advocate for her family, beloved "Nonie" to her grandchildren and animal lover. She was an amazing cook and loved to entertain. Her sharp wit was apparent to her final days.
Jane was involved with numerous charities and community organizations including PEO chapter CS-DK, Navy Wives, Heritage League and numerous bridge clubs. She helped to found the Alzheimer's Support Group.
Family members include her sons Jim (Katy) Jarvis, Jon Jarvis and Jay (Trish) Jarvis; grandchildren Matt (Kay) Jarvis, Kristen Jarvis (fiancé Charlie), Megen (Peter) Rowe, Tara (Phil) Baylog, Jack and Taylor Jarvis; great-granddaughter Ellie Rowe. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Dr. William Jack Jarvis; brother Bill Whitesell; sister Joan Bopp; Family Godmothers Adeline Schwimmer and Frances Silver.
Special thanks to the staff at Home Care Assistance of Lincoln, The Woodlands at Hillcrest memory care, Bryan Health East and Dr Tim Stivrins for their kind and compassionate care of Jane in her last years.
